New Boxes

Okay, it seems that in shipping my printer heads got messed up. I'm trying to figure out how to fix it, but as it stands, I can't get a clean print to go through the printer. I might be looking at having to buy a new one = / Which is lame, because my bank is in Anchorage, and not in Juneau, which means I have no money for a new printer. However, there were some spare boxes that were messed up through various experiments on trying to get those gosh darn water slide decals to work, so I busted out my scrapbooking paper and modpodge. Below are 6 new boxes all of which are for sale in hopes that I can get some printer money.

On to the pictures!Collapse )

Hi all,

I just got my printer in the mail and I'm working on setting up shop, making sure I have everything I need. I pulled out my own bento boxes today and I noticed that they seem to have a strange... I'm not sure what it is. It's not actual cracking, but it's like a spiderweb of cracking in the coating on top, not the actual decal. It's not on my Godzilla Robot one at all, but it is on my Fontbento, and I'm wondering if anyone else who has purchased a bento box from me has this? I'm wondering if it's an effect from shipping, or if it was because these were sprayed after a long delay, or what. I'm going to have to do some experimenting and try and get this weird effect to stop. It's not terribly noticeable, it's just in a certain tilt in the light.

As a side note I may need to stop placing things on the sides of the bento boxes and just work with the covers. I wish this weren't the case, but it probably will be. I'll be taking new pictures and updating the site and I'll notify everyone of the change who's on the waitlist for those of you who don't see it here. Thanks everyone!

Another Update

Alright. I have internet (sort of, it's not wireless, but it's not stolen either xD) We still have yet to get even a stitch of furniture, but I might have a shelf put up by tomorrow, god willing we can find a stud finder and... patch the wall >.>

I got all the bento stuff in the mail today though, so yay! It will go with the mound of boxes in the corner of my room until I manage to get things set up. I'm on the prowl for a new, faster way of making these boxes, perhaps custom pre-made decals or stickers of some kind (Anyone know of anything good and cheap out there?)

I also thought that I'd share one of the three new designs with you guys, just to show you that I'm not as dead as I appear to be = )

Image and more below the cut!Collapse )

Well, it's been a very very very long time, but we're in Juneau now. We don't have a stitch of furniture and my boxes with my stuff have yet to arrive, but at least the road trip is done. It was long, with some good and some bad parts, like all road trips go. I'm hoping that once I get my printer and all the boxes that I shipped I can start my bento box business up and running again. Things are still up in the air, we don't even technically have internet yet (Yay for wi-fi coffee shops).

But, the house is beautiful and I finally have my own room, and best of all I graduated from college despite a great many obstacles. So yay, go me, and yay for everything else. I'm greatly looking forward to returning to the internet and starting up an etsy store for bento, and if ANY of you have any suggestions on ways I could apply decals or the designs I have to the boxes, let me know! Right now it just takes a lot of work with the chance of a lot of mess ups and a lot of re-dos and wasted materials and it just drives me bonkers. Thanks everyone and I hope your summer is off to a great start = )

I'm not dead

I promise = (

I'm having major computer issues, which in turn leads to a back up of school work, and a large pile of stress. If things keep going the way they are I may have to figure out a way to get a new laptop before the semester is out, because it took my computer a full ten minutes to open a 10 MB photoshop file today ._. It was so sad.

On the bright side all orders have been shipped (Jewelmaker yours went out thursday, and CG yours went out friday- btw neither of you guys responded to my e-mails, did you get them? My school server has been going crazy bad with not sending my e-mails at random = / ) and spring break is, not this week, but next week. I have more bentos laying around but I can't really deal with taking orders and sending them right now, too much school work to do. Mostly that dumb fine arts class where I feel like my time would be better spent hammering nails into a board for zombie apocalypse usage.

Really. It's a color class and I've learned not a stitch of anything about color, other than, the more abstract it is the more she likes it. And sadly, I'm one of those artists who makes things look like things, y'know, the things we're drawing? rather than like... blobs and shapes of abstract and representational color. So... She doesn't like my work. Ah well, I just want to pass the dumb thing because it's required.

Anyway, here's what I was laboring over this weekend- I can't even begin to tell you how horribly time consuming this was and I already see at least one big error, but, it ALL LINES UP, SO THERE. HAH. I WIN. Take that, life.

All Sides Logan FigurineCollapse )

Still haven't gotten my ink from ASAP inkjet yet. My computer is DRIVING ME INSANE, it's going SO SLOW and typing this message all this type wouldn't even show up for like twenty seconds oh my freaking god. Auuughhh -headdesk-. There it did it again. I swear I want to buy a new one but... Yeah. Bleh. Okay, it's not the end of the world, just... irritating. Anyway, this is what I've been working on. I spent the weekend double testing boxes and I have Shani and CG's done (Shani, the mail room didn't send it again, so I have to pick it up tomorrow) I'm just going to start printing postage out at home despite the ink, because apparently the people in the mail room are... None too bright. Apparently it was like 10 cents off, I don't know.

Other than that, here's some incomplete work, I really like how it turned out. It's a Slider, part of my illustration 4 work. All the blank space is for information but I haven't gotten around to filling it out. Shiny, yay. Oh, and I made muffins. But not carrot muffins, they were practice muffins.  Turned out pretty good though.

Product Design

Lulz lulz lulz. Okay, so I don't get an excuse to draw characters very often, but my product design class teacher was like "If you were a millionaire, what toy would you make?" so, I'd totally make these figurines. I have to do side and back views but these are the flat colors for the first one. It's a pair of twins, Logan and Luka, (this is Logan) who live in a post apocalyptic world traveling in a caravan called the Mercy Wagon surviving after the zombie apocalypse = ) Yay! Think... Tank Girl, but with zombies. Yeah. Just wanted to have a bit of fun. I really want those wrist tattoos but I would get three bands for me and my two sisters <3 he only has two because it's just him and his twin.

Sorry for the flat colors, apparently if you put a shine or shadow on ANYTHING then it's likely to come back like, with the shine or shadow painted on the figurine. I promise I'll make a nicer, fully colored version in the future though.

'That time of the month' Bento

Is there a way to post to your journal -and- to a community?

Okay, so I've been trying to eat healthy with these bentos, and it's going pretty good, but this is a total breakdown. I've got fudge with walnuts in it, yogurt covered raisins, peanuts, banana and peanut butter skewers and (as usual) an orange. The orange was delicious too = ) and small enough to fit! Okay so my bento isn't too exciting- BUT, I got my bento bag from jewelmaker in the mail today and I squee'd in delight. It's beautiful! More pictures of it below the cut!

More awesome bag pics here!Collapse )Anyway, I've got to go and get more ink for my printer somehow, and Megan doesn't come home till nine, so maybe I'll try and take the bus down to Office Depot, but it's a really crappy neighborhood and I don't feel terribly safe in the city. In other news I've made excellent progress on my senior show which had been really bothering me for a while, unfortunately I've missed out on the last two projects in my illustration 4 class, buuuut I don't care. It's hard to make work for a class that you either don't care about or a project you don't care about. People say you have to work on stuff you don't care about all your life, but you're getting -paid- for that, which always makes a difference when it comes to motivation. Ah well, I'm sure it'll be fine.

Also for anyone on the waitlist it may be a little while till I get everything sorted, but I plan on spending a lot of time getting these bento's done over spring break, which is in like, a week or two for me. Right now I'm just trying to focus on my senior show work. I'd love to spend time designing more bento boxes but I just don't have the time = / laaame.

Hey guys,

A lot of you have asked me how I make these boxes, so I made a little animated gif on my process for the rub on decals = )
